About Us
Descendants was the dream of Robin Molloy, an Irish transplant who arrived in Kitchener in 1990. Robin moved to Berlin, Germany with his partner Lee in 2012 to study to become a Certified Brewmaster at the VLB. Upon returning to Kitchener-Waterloo, we began to develop the brewery now known as Descendants, and open our doors in April 2016.
We chose this name because we, and our beer, are all descendants of our ancestors. Beer has grown, changed, and evolved over many generations. Countries and cultures all over the world have added their own creativity and technology to perfecting what we currently enjoy today. We aim to pay homage to those that came before us, while continuing to grow and evolve.
We like to put a face to our brews to better connect with them and the idea that they are descendants like us. Our first launch, Harbinger, paved the way for the rest of our characters that we have created and enjoyed, and we’ll continue to create more interesting characters for our community to experience. We encourage you to explore these characters and their stories, and of course, the drinks themselves.

Our Values
At Descendants, we’re more than just a craft beer brewery. We’re a place for fun, celebration, and building a community. A brewery, European style bierhalle, beer store, and event venue, all in one. Descendants is a place where everyone is welcome.
Our team works diligently to create an open and caring culture with our customers and our own team members. We care about the Kitchener community and all of the people who live here. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, sexism, and all other types of discrimination are not tolerated here.
Since Descendants is more than a brewery, if beer is not for you, no problem. We have a full bar with our craft beer, cider, spirits, wine, and soft drinks available. We do, however, hold tight to the belief that we can change your mind and show you how great beer can be if you give us a chance! Our food menu offers vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, as well as meat options.
There have been many debates about whether children should be permitted in breweries. As a family-friendly brewery, we don’t see the need for debate. Anyone under the age of 19 can visit our brewery until 9:00 pm. We also hold several events throughout the year dedicated to children and families.
We truly appreciate you taking the time to visit our website and learn more about who we are, and what is important to us. We genuinely look forward to sharing our space, our beer, our food, and our time celebrating life with you soon.
Céad Míle Fáilte, Welcome
~ Descendants Team

Anatomy of Our Logo
The combination of the wheat and the family tree 'sprouts' form a rising sun; a signal of the coming of a new age in craft brewing. However, the family tree still suggests that we also have deep roots that connect us all to our past and one another.
The combination of the wheat icon and the family tree sprouts act as a rising sun, a semiotic representation of the coming of a new age.
